HULDAH, The prophet who changed a nation.

The story of Huldah can be found in the Old Testament. Huldah was a prophetess who played a significant role during the reign of King Josiah of Judah. Her story is recounted in two primary biblical passages: 2 Kings 22:14-20 and 2 Chronicles 34:22-28.

In the ancient kingdom of Judah, during the reign of King Josiah, a remarkable event unfolded in the heart of Jerusalem. Josiah, a young and devout king, was determined to restore the worship of Yahweh and cleanse the land of idolatry. His commitment led to the renovation of the temple, a project that would uncover a hidden treasure—a long-forgotten book of the Law.

As the temple was being repaired, Hilkiah, the High Priest, discovered this sacred scroll. Realizing its significance, he passed it to Shaphan, the royal scribe, who then read its words to King Josiah. Upon hearing the dire warnings and commandments contained within, Josiah was struck with profound fear and sorrow for his people’s past disobedience.

Seeking divine guidance, Josiah dispatched a delegation to consult Huldah, a revered prophetess residing in Jerusalem. Her dwelling was a simple abode, yet it was a place where the voice of God was known to resonate. The delegation, comprising priests and royal officials, approached Huldah with the urgency befitting the gravity of their mission.

Huldah received them with wisdom and grace. As she listened, she discerned the divine message meant for the king and his people. Her words were clear and unwavering: the calamities foretold in the book would indeed come to pass due to the nation's waywardness. However, she also brought a message of hope for Josiah. Because of his humility and sincere repentance, the impending disasters would not occur during his lifetime.

The delegation returned to Josiah with Huldah’s prophecy, which both confirmed his fears and reassured him of his own standing before God. Encouraged, Josiah redoubled his efforts to lead his people back to righteousness, guided by the wisdom imparted through Huldah’s prophetic voice.

Thus, the story of Huldah in the Bible stands as a testament to the power of divine communication through unexpected channels, underscoring the impact of faith and repentance in the face of looming judgment.
